Prospective Mission: The Nordics - Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland

In the first week of May a group of 14 representatives of the Brazilian venture capital ecosystem embarked on a mission to identify potential business opportunities in the Nordic countries. What they found was beyond expectation.

The mission was free for fund managers members of ABVCAP and a charge was applied to others. The mission included visits and meetings with the principal representatives of the VC community in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

All participants evaluated the event as excellent. In 10 days the group was exposed to the principal professionals of each of the country´s venture capital ecosystem. In Norway, the first stop the group spoke with a mix of public and private leaders. The country is very focused on renewable energy and has a great worry about the future generations. The venture capital ecosystem is still young and has started to emerge as an important segment of the economy in the past five years. Sweden offers the most evolved ecosystem of all. A hub for innovation, global companies and unicorns, Sweden has a strong foundation from public and private initiatives to foment innovation and the startup environment. Finland is the digital country, as they put. They have sophisticated investors and companies. Relationships with China seemed to be more present within Finnish entrepreuners. Denmark also the home of unicorns, presents a strong infrastructure to foment investments at the early stage. Danish startups are well equipped and very sophisticated. The group left with a long list of follow-ups to make. Businesses opportunities were generate from outside and inside the group.
