Brazil´s venture capital has seen an increase of interest from global players looking to invest and not just manage VC funds, but also to go beyond the developed international VC hubs and into strategic long-term economic growth areas such as Brazil.

Several changes such as the improvement of macro conditions, continued growth of Brazil´s middle class, a pool of stronger entrepreneurs focused on innovation are gradually contributing and nurturing an environment that is hospitable and encouraging to VC investments.

Speakers:

 Patrick Arippol, Founding Partner, DGF Investimentos

Patrick heads the Early-Stage practice at DGF Investimentos, one of the leading PE/VC's in Brazil.  He spent   his career building high-growth innovative companies in Silicon Valley and Brazil.  Before joining DGF as partner, he founded and managed Delphis Capital, a Silicon Valley-based investment firm focused primarily in enterprise software, internet, and healthcare.  Earlier, he co-founded and built startups Prosper Services (mobile payments) in the Bay Area, and Salutia in Brazil (e-health company acquired by TIVIT).  Patrick also worked for entrepreneurial thought leaders at the Stanford GSB, Seer Technologies and Monitor.

Renata Guinther, Head of Investment, FINEP, Brazil's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Ms. Guinther studied Economics at Federal Fluminense University and Industrial Administration at CEFET-RJ. She is currently responsible for the Investment Area of FINEP. She leads the team responsible for analysis, selection and monitoring for seed investments, private equity, venture capital and fund of funds, and also for the investment at innovative companies. She previously worked at Petros, the Social Security Fund of Petrobras, and Previ, the Pension Fund of Bank of Brazil. 

Rodrigo Menezes, Partner, Derraik&Menezes Advogados

Rodrigo has represented clients in connection with very significant M&A and venture capital deals involving Brazilian and foreign companies and funds in a wide variety of industries, including internet, cosmetic, e-commerce, consumer, healthcare, technology, telecom, energy and general industries. He is visiting Professor in several universities such as FGV – Fundação Getúlio Vargas and INSPER, teaching legal aspects of venture capital and private equity investments for the graduation and post-graduation degrees. He is also panelist in several conferences and seminars discussing the legal aspects of venture capital and private equity investments, from distinct schools and associations such as FIU - Florida International University (Americas Venture Capital Conference), USP, ABVCAP (Brazilian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association), Anjos do Brasil, Finep and Endeavor. He is author and contributor of several articles, including the Multijurisdictional Guide 2012 - Venture Capital Chapter for Brazil, published by Practical Law Company (the “PLC Handbook”).

Susana García-Robles, Principal Investment Officer in charge of MIF Early Stage Equity Group, MIF/FOMIN (Multilateral Investment Fund).

Since 1999, Ms. Garcia-Robles has created and guided the seed/venture capital investments of MIF/FOMIN in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as its entrepreneurship strategy. She serves on over 20 boards of directors and investment committees of seed and venture capital funds, and is frequently invited to speak at industry events on seed, venture capital, impact investment, entrepreneurship and women’s issues. Memberships include: US-Brazil VC Task Force hosted by the Commerce Department and the Kauffman Foundation since 2006, co-founder of the Argentinean VC Association/ARCAP and the Colombian VC/PE Association ColCapital, Latin American VC association/LAVCA’s Board of Directors member, and Advisory Board member of the Brazilian VC Association, ABVCAP, the Colombian VC/PE Association ColCapital, and of the Global Impact Investors Network Council (GIIN). Before 1999, she focused on youth and women leadership issues. Ms. Garcia-Robles has a Master’s Degree in International Economic Policy from Columbia University  and a Master’s in Philosophy and Education from the Catholic University of Argentina.
