Our Association

ABVCAP's membership is composed of an unlimited number of Associates, with active and proven experience in the Brazilian alternative assets industry, including seed capital, venture capital, private equity, private credit, real estate, natural resources, infrastructure and special situations, as long as they fall within the membership categories.

Members include alternative asset fund managers, national and global institutional investors, funds of funds, secondaries, development and development banks, corporations, family offices, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and angel investors.

Supporting Associates

Title granted to outstanding legal entity Associates who contribute in a differentiated, effective and significant manner to the financial maintenance, prosperity and prestige of ABVCAP and the sector as a whole, receiving personalized service and greater visibility and priority in ABVCAP products and events.

They include investment managers with local or international funds, as well as funds of funds or secondary funds that have discretionary management and allocation of third-party resources in alternative investments, including venture capital, private equity, private credit, real estate, natural resources, infrastructure and special situations.

Managing Associates have leadership in directing the entity, with greater representation than other categories in the formation of its main body, the Deliberative Council.

They include institutional investors, local or foreign, such as corporations, assets, family offices, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, closed or open private pension entities, insurance companies, national, international or multilateral development agencies or entities, development banks, as well as angel investors who are investors in the venture capital, private equity, private credit, real estate, natural resources, infrastructure and special situations industries.

Individuals or legal entities that operate, directly or indirectly, in the venture capital, private equity, private credit, real estate, natural resources, infrastructure, and special situations industries, advising managers and investors, such as lawyers, consultants, auditors, fiduciary administrators, placement agents, custodians, recruitment companies, among others.

These are Managers in the process of establishing or developing operations who have the prospect of becoming Managing Associates in the future. Beginner Managers are a transitional category. The membership period is set by the Board of Directors.

Ary Burger was a founding partner of CRP and a pioneer of private equity in Brazil. He served as the company's Managing Director until 1996 and actively participated in the management of the CRP I and CRP II funds. He played a key role in the creation of CVM Instruction 209 and the founding of ABVCAP. An economist and accountant with a doctorate in Economics, he held prominent positions such as Secretary of Finance of Rio Grande do Sul, president of BRDE and BADESUL, director of the Central Bank, and CFO of Gerdau. He also participated in international economic missions for the World Bank (IBRD).

A law graduate from UERJ in 1972, he placed first in the CVM (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission) exam in 1978, but opted for a career in the private sector. He was a partner at the law firm Motta, Fernandes Rocha until 2016, when he founded Cantidiano Advogados. He served as president of the CVM (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission) from 2002 to 2004, and also served as president of COSRA (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission) during the same period. A specialist in corporate law and capital markets, he played a key role in the creation of B3's Novo Mercado (New Market). He served on several boards, including ABVCAP, BNDESPAR, and ABRASCA, and has published three books and numerous articles on the subject.

Thomás was president of the CVM (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission) from 1993 to 1995, during which time he regulated investment funds for emerging companies, aiming to support SMEs. He also chaired COSRA, was a director at Banespa Corretora, an advisor to the president of Bovespa, and is one of the founders of ABVCAP, where he served on the Board. He chaired IBMEC and currently leads Codemec. He published the book *Sociedades de Capital de Risco* and, with support from ABAMEC, organized the first venture capital seminar in Brazil. He also lectured at the Sorbonne University on the Brazilian capital markets.

He was the founder and first president of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), a central figure in the organization of the Brazilian capital markets. He currently chairs the Market Arbitration Chamber (CAM) of B3. His career began at Deltec in 1958, and he served as vice president of Banco de Investimento do Brasil and Unibanco until 1977. He also chaired Brasilpar, a pioneer in venture capital and private equity in Brazil. He founded CEBRI and served on several national and international boards, including the Interamerican Dialogue, CEAL, and IASB. His career is closely linked to the institutional strengthening and internationalization of the Brazilian capital markets.
