This paper provides an overview of the performance of Private Equity and Venture Capital in Brazil from 1994 to 2018, combining funds registered with the CVM (Brazilian SEC) and the Spectra-Insper database.

Data Consolidation 3rd Quarter 2024

The ABVCAP report, in partnership with TTR Data, presents data on the Private Equity and Venture Capital market in Brazil for the third quarter of 2024. Between January and September, sales transactions related to funds in these segments totaled R$1.5 billion. During the same period, investments made by Private Equity and Venture Capital funds reached R$1.4 billion.

Data Consolidation 2nd Quarter 2024

The ABVCAP report, in partnership with TTR Data, presents data for the first half of 2024: Venture Capital managers invested R$2.8 billion in 31 companies, a R$751 billion increase compared to the same period last year. Private Equity funds completed 16 transactions, totaling R$1.2 billion in investments. Corporate Venture Capital completed 23 transactions, with investments totaling R$500 million.

Data consolidation 1st Quarter 2024

The ABVCAP report, in partnership with TTR Data, presents data for the first five months of 2024: Private Equity managers invested R$5.4 billion in 29 deals between January and May of this year. Venture Capital funds invested R$4.2 billion in 166 rounds. Corporate Venture Capital invested 29 deals, totaling R$500 million.

Data consolidation 4th Quarter 2023

The report presents the consolidated values by Private Equity (PE), Venture Capital (VC), and Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) segment for two periods: 2022 and 2023. In 2023, the PE segment reached R$ of R$22.7 billion, surpassing the R$ of R$19 billion in 2022. VC, on the other hand, recorded a decrease from R$ of R$17.5 billion to R$ of R$7.4 billion in the same period. CVC also fell, from R$ of R$5.6 billion in 2022 to R$ of R$2.2 billion in 2023.

Data consolidation 3rd Quarter 2023

The report presents the consolidated values of the Private Equity (PE), Venture Capital (VC), and Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) segments in the third quarter of 2023 and 2022. PE grew from R$ 1.9 billion in 2022 to R$ 3.1 billion in 2023. VC, however, fell from R$ 2.7 billion to R$ 1.9 billion in the same period. CVC increased, going from R$ 600 million in 2022 to R$ 800 million in 2023.

The report shows the consolidated values of the Private Equity (PE), Venture Capital (VC), and Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) segments in the first and second quarters of 2023 and 2022. In the second quarter of 2023, the total was R$ 6.47 billion, led by PE with R$ 4.5 billion. VC decreased significantly from R$ 6.16 billion in 2022 to R$ 1.29 billion in 2023. CVC varied from R$ 1 billion in 2022 to R$ 680 million in 2023.

Data consolidation 1st Quarter 2023

The report presents financial data for the PE, VC, and CVC categories for three periods. In Q1 2023, PE recorded R$ 600 million, a significant decrease from R$ 4.6 billion in Q1 2022. VC also showed a reduction, from R$ 6.32 billion in Q1 2022 to R$ 1.42 billion in Q1 2023. CVC decreased from R$ 3.23 billion to R$ 180 million in the same period. The total decreased from R$ 14.15 billion to R$ 2.2 billion.

Performance of Brazilian PE/VC 2022

We selected all funds (FIPs) listed in the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) that are classified as Private Equity and Venture Capital by ABVCAP. Dataset is complemented with funds from Spectra-Insper database, which includes Brazil and Latin America funds with Investments in Brazil. Fund of funds, real estate, infrastructure funds structure and FIPs used as investment vehicles of family holding were excluded.

Data Consolidation 1st Quarter 2022

The table shows the number of Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) deals completed in 2020 and 2021. In 2020, there were 55 PE deals and 200 VC deals, totaling 255. In 2021, there was a decrease to 26 PE deals, while VC deals grew significantly to 319, totaling 345 deals in the year. This highlights the increased relevance of VC in the market, contrasting with the decrease in PE activity in the same period.

Private Equity and Venture Capital fund investments in Brazilian companies reached R$53.8 billion in 2021, 128% higher than the R$23.6 billion invested in 2020. The data comes from research conducted by KPMG and the Brazilian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.
